At the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, the Gujarat Giants won the third match of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) by a margin of six wickets with a few overs remaining.
Kiran Navgire and Dinesh Vrinda, the opening duo, were short-lived. On the fourth delivery of the third over itself, Deepti Sharma, the captain of the UP Warriorz, came out to bat. With 41 points scored, the Warriorz concluded the powerplay. The last delivery of the midway stage ended Uma Chetry’s scratchy 27-ball 24-run knock.
Priya Mishra appeared to have thrown the batsmen off balance with a double-wicket over. Tahlia McGrath’s delivery went through faster than she had expected, and she was disqualified for a silver duck. Grace Harris, a youthful 20-year-old leg-spinner, was thrilled to be dismissed after two balls. With eleven overs remaining, the Warriorz were five runs behind.
Ashleigh Gardner’s incredible effort at mid-off ended Deepti’s career as well. In the next over, Gardner bowled Shweta Sehrawat. Things appeared bleak for the guests after Sophie Ecclestone was castled by Kashvee Gautam. Nevertheless, the scoreboard gained some weight thanks to the 26 runs that came off the last two overs.
The Giants’ start to their chase for 144 could not have been more catastrophic. Within the first two overs, their top-order batsmen had been removed. Gardner, however, rallied with a 21-run over against Saima Thakor. After the first six overs, the Giants’ score was the same as that of their opponents. In the ninth over, Sophie Ecclestone dismissed Laura Wolvaardt. Shortly after recording her second consecutive WPL fifty, Gardner returned to the shed.
Deandra Dottin emerged to join Harleen Deol in the centre. The two skilfully used cleverness and aggression to create an undefeated 58-run partnership that easily led their team to victory. During the second innings, there were a few misfielding incidents that finally hurt the Warriorz in the end.

My player of the match..The big star in the making, Priya Mishra. 3 huge wickets of Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris & Deepti Sharma! 4/25/3. Made it impossible for UP warriors to get over 150. With dew, tough to protect that. Simply said : Match winning performance! #TATAWPL
