In the Adelaide Test on Friday, December 6, bowler Mitchell Starc removed Team India’s explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on the opening ball, preventing him from continuing his incredible batting form. It was noteworthy because Jaiswal was into the match fresh off of smashing a fatherly century (161 runs) in Perth.
He trapped the southpaw in front of the wicket, though, and Mitchell Starc overcame him.
The ongoing day-night Test is an essential component of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25), for those who are not familiar with it. As a result, the 22-year-old was added to an unpleasant record that also included the renowned Sunil Gavaskar. Yashasvi Jaiswal was removed on the opening ball of a Test match, making him just the seventh batsman to do so. Her dismissal came from the Leg Before Wicket order.
In 1974, Gavaskar was removed on the opening delivery of the Manchester Test, making him the first Indian batter to be hit by a pacer up front, Geoff Arnold, a former England bowler. It’s interesting to note that the former Indian legend experienced this incident twice more, suffering the same destiny.
The now 75-year-old was dismissed first ball in Kolkata in the final stages of 1983 by West Indies’ fiery bowler Malcolm Marshall. Imran Khan, the legendary pacer and former captain of Pakistan, then took Sunil Gavaskar out on the opening delivery in a 1987 Test match played in Jaipur.
