Moeen Ali, an England cricketer, commended veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his tenacious batting but gave an honest appraisal of his bowling. Jadeja stayed firm on Day 5 at Lord’s, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 181 deliveries and spending more than four hours at the crease to keep India’s chances alive.
Moeen acknowledged that the 36-year-old is still landing the ball in the appropriate places, but he hasn’t been able to make the required impact with it. So far, Jadeja has taken only three wickets in three Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy matches.
“He knows exactly what he’s doing. I believe he has done this for many years. I think he’s been great with the bat this series. I believe he hasn’t taken enough wickets with the ball, but he does his job. He’s extremely tight. Although he can bowl, he is not particularly skilled… I believe he is presently at the pinnacle of his batting. Bowling-wise, I believe he lacks wickets.
With the score, I believe he bowled well; he just doesn’t have the wickets,” Moeen Ali told India Today.
Moeen also believed that Kuldeep Yadav deserved a shot in the forthcoming Test in Manchester, but admitted that there may not be room for him in the playing XI. He pointed out that Washington Sundar bowled well, while Jadeja contributed with the bat, making it difficult to put Kuldeep into the squad.
“I’d want to see Kuldeep on the team, but I’m not sure who for. Washington bowled well; Jadeja batted brilliantly. So it makes it harder to bring Kuldeep Yadav in the side. “I’d like to see Kuldeep in, but I don’t think they can fit him in,” Moeen explained.
India currently enters the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester down 2-1 in the series and would be eager to equalise the score. Meanwhile, England will aim to seal the series with a win in the upcoming clash.
