After a dismal showing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee has been questioned about their team selection ahead of the Champions Trophy. In addition to the board, players—including Pakistan’s current biggest star, Babar Azam—have also come under fire.
Babar Azam did not have a very impressive tournament performance. He was out cheaply against the bitter rivals after scoring a shaky half-century against New Zealand. He no longer holds the top spot in the ODI format, which is now held by Shubman Gill, the rising opening batsman. Despite all of the criticism, Mohsin Khan, a former Pakistani cricket player and coach, made a startling social media statement comparing Babar to India cricketing legend Virat Kohli. He said that the two-time world champion is nothing in comparison to Babar while the local news channel Ary News was open.
Let me tell you one thing first. In comparison to Babar Azam, Virat Kohli is a zero. We are discussing Pakistan cricket here, not who is a better player. that has been demolished. No strategy, no preparation, no merit, and absolutely no responsibility are present. “There is no accountability,” Mohsin declared.

Babar’s initial quandary
The management’s decision to move Babar from his regular place at number three to start the batting in the tournament is another move that has angered analysts. Intikhab Alam, the former coach of Pakistan, expressed his thoughts on Sportstar and is among the specialists that finds this shift problematic.
“What the hell is the point of sending him to the top? He’s not an opener. The best bet should be in the number three spot, which is the foundation of a batting lineup. The coaches need to have instructed him to stay there the whole time and score a century. The way you should play is to have over 300 runs on the board if he earned you a hundred and someone else added 50 or 60 runs or such. Not even Babar ought to have changed his batting position. I’m not sure who persuaded him to start the inning. The former cricket player stated that it was a poor choice.
