Former England cricketer Monty Panesar believes Arshdeep Singh should have started playing in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 right away. The left-arm seamer was called up to the Indian Test squad for a five-match tour of England. However, he is the only fast bowler in the team who has yet to play a game.
Arshdeep not only adds a distinct dimension to his left-arm bowling, but he also has extensive experience bowling in English conditions from his time in County cricket.
Panesar expressed surprise that Arshdeep did not play from the start of the first Test, citing his ability to bowl from good angles and potential as a handful in English conditions.
“Arshdeep Singh should play. I’m surprised he didn’t play the first test match. He can bowl from good angles, and a left-arm seam will be a great option. India Today quoted Panesar as adding, “He should be very good in these English conditions.”
Jasprit Bumrah should play the upcoming match: Monty Panesar
Before the series, head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that Jasprit Bumrah would only play three of the five games. The Gujarat seamer has played two of the first three Tests, and Panesar believes he should play the fourth Test in Manchester because the surface has more pace and bounce than any other venue in the UK.
“Jasprit Bumrah should play in the next match.” This is a must-win match for India. They must unleash their full offensive potential. Bumrah has to play the next Test. “He has to play on the pitch with the most pace and bounce in the country,” he said.
India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said that the team management will take a call on Bumrah’s participation once they reach Manchester. He stated that the management will take a lot of factors into consideration before deciding on Bumrah’s involvement.
“We’ll make that call on Bumrah in Manchester. It’s clear the series is on the line now, so we’re leaning toward playing him. But we must look at the bigger picture – how many days of cricket we expect, our best chance of winning in Manchester, and how that fits with the Oval Test that follows,” he added.
