Morne Morkel, India’s bowling coach, has left the team’s training camp in advance of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai in order to go home.
The Times of India reported on Monday, February 17, that the former South African speedster had gone home because of a personal situation. Dainik Jagran has revealed that Morne Morkel went back to his hometown because of his father’s passing. The Indian team arrived to Dubai on Saturday, February 15, and Morne Morkel, who was named bowling coach in September of last year, was there at the team’s first practice on Sunday.
But he missed Monday’s second practice session for Team India, which took place under the lights. It’s unclear when Morne Morkel will be joining the club again.
On Thursday, February 20, in Dubai, the Men in Blue will play Bangladesh to kick off their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. It will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium between the two neighbouring countries.
India will play its matches in Dubai because of the political animosity between the two nations, even though Pakistan is the tournament’s host. On Sunday, February 23, India will play Pakistan in the eagerly anticipated match in Dubai. On March 2, New Zealand, the other squad in Group A, will play Rohit Sharma and company.
Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia are positioned in Group B. On February 21, South Africa and Afghanistan will face off in Karachi. Old rivals Australia and England will face off in Lahore the next day.
Pakistan is the tournament’s reigning champion. They defeated India in the finals at The Oval in 2017 to win the previous iteration of the competition. The Champions Trophy will be in its eighth iteration. The eight-team spectacular has fans eagerly anticipating its commencement.
