The Asia Cup premiered in 1984. However, the continental competition’s maiden T20 version took place in 2016. This was developed to help Asian teams prepare for ICC T20 competitions.
The first two editions of the T20 Asia Cup took place in 2016 and 2022. This helped teams prepare for the T20 World Cups in 2016 and 2022, respectively. This year’s championship will be staged in the 20-over style once more, as the next T20 World Cup begins in February 2026 on the Indian subcontinent.

1. UAE, Pakistan, Hong Kong – Lost 6

UAE qualify for the main round by winning a qualification tournament in 2016. However, they lost all four matches in the main competition. After skipping the 2022 tournament, the UAE returned this year and lost two of their three matches. Hong Kong lost all three qualifying matches in 2016. They also went winless in their three Group B games this year. Hong Kong did not participate in the 2022 edition of the event.
Pakistan has won the Asia Cup in 50-over format twice. However, they have failed to win the T20 Asia Cup. The Men in Green lost two games in the first edition, and three more in the second. In the current competition, they have one loss and two victories in three games. Pakistan had six defeats in total in the T20 Asia Cup, level with the UAE and Hong Kong.
2. Afghanistan, Bangladesh – Lost 5

Afghanistan did not enjoy a good start in the T20 Asia Cup. In the first edition, they were unable to advance to the main event after losing to the UAE in the qualifiers. The Blue Tigers lost three matches in 2022, and one more this year.
In contrast, Bangladesh lost two games in each of the tournament’s first two editions. They fell to India in the 2016 summit clash. In the present event, Sri Lanka defeated the Bangladesh Tigers by six wickets in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan and Bangladesh have each suffered five defeats in the T20 Asia Cup.
3. Sri Lanka, Oman – Lost 4

Sri Lanka and Oman have both suffered four defeats in T20 Asia Cup history. The Lankan Lions lost three matches in the tournament’s debut season. However, they did admirably in 2022. Sri Lanka won the title under Dasun Shanaka‘s inspired leadership, losing only one game throughout the season.
On the other hand, Oman dropped two games in the 2016 competition. However, they did not make it to the next edition in 2022. Oman has suffered two defeats this year under Jatinder Singh’s leadership, and their next match will be in Abu Dhabi against the might of the Men in Blue.
4. India – Lost 2

India has lost the fewest amount of matches in T20 Asia Cup history. They went undefeated at the 2016 Asia Cup. However, in the 2022 edition of the tournament, the Men in Blue lost two games and were unable to defend their championship.
Suryakumar Yadav’s squad has yet to lose at the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. So far, they’ve defeated the hosts, the UAE, and archrivals Pakistan. They are scheduled to play Oman in their final group-stage match, followed by Super Four games against Pakistan and two other Group B sides yet to be determined.
