Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricketer for India, thinks that MS Dhoni, a great player, should soon take over as head coach of the Indian team.
The stumper-batter, who is now competing in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, has hinted that he might participate in IPL 2024 as well, despite rumors that he will retire at the end of the current campaign.
MS Dhoni has coaching expertise; he oversaw the Indian team’s preparation for the T20 World Cup in 2021. Despite India’s failure to advance to the competition’s semifinals, Dhoni spent a lot of time with the cricketers and was seen developing the younger players as well. Because his decisions will be based on players he has played with, Gavaskar wants him to accept the position after a few years, even though he has the necessary experience.
“MS Dhoni may take over as the Indian team’s coach at a later time. I believe that is how things ought to be. I do think that after you stop playing, you need to take some time to settle down before taking on any tasks for the squad.
“Whether you’re on the hiring committee, the management team, or the coaching staff, I believe you need a two- or three-year cooling-off period because you’re making decisions about the athlete you’ve been working with. Gavaskar said in an interview with Star Sports during the IPL 2023 match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Chennai Super Kings, “You can give somebody a three-year cooling-off time and then look at it.
Chennai is currently third on the IPL points table thanks to Dhoni’s leadership, as they have won five games so far this season. Dhoni has amazed everyone with his batting abilities, scoring 74 runs in 10 games at an incredible strike rate of 211.42. The cricketer might score more runs in the middle if he is moved up the order. He has typically played brief cameo roles.
