Deepak Chahar said that CSK Coach Fleming was eager to put him on the field from the beginning of the 2018 season. One of the most well-known teams in the IPL is MS Dhoni. Their success in this money-making game is mostly due to the fact that they always back the young players they work with. Also, the CSK captain has been a solid pillar in giving players the freedom they need to show what they can do when it counts most. So, Dhoni has helped many cricket players who have never played for their country improve their skills in the Indian Premier League.
In the same way, before the IPL 2023 final, Deepak Chahar told an interesting story about how MS Dhoni had overruled CSK coach Stephen Fleming’s team choice. This showed how the wicketkeeper batter supports and backs the team’s young players. The 30-year-old said that he had trouble in the 2016 IPL season when he played for the Rising Pune Supergiants under MS Dhoni. He got hurt and had to wait until 2018 to become a regular player under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
Still, Dhoni was adamant that the pacer play in all 14 games. The 30-year-old also said that Dhoni had put Deepak Chahar name at the top of the team sheet for the first game when they were making plans.
I was chosen by CSK in 2018, but Fleming didn’t want to play me: Deepak Chahar
Since then, Deepak Chahar has moved up the ranks by becoming CSK’s go-to bowler in the powerplays and picking up wickets for the team on a daily basis. MS Dhoni, who was the captain of CSK, stuck with Deepak Chahar and believed in his bowling skills. So, Dhoni put the willy bowler at the front of the line-up for the choice. This led to finding a good all-rounder not only for the IPL team but also for team India.
“It’s interesting that Fleming picked me more for my hitting than my bowling. I hit five sixes in a practice match, which is why he picked me. I hurt my leg, which meant I couldn’t play for most of the 2016 season. In 2017, the team’s lineup was already decided, and I got to play a few games. In 2018, CSK picked me in the bidding. Fleming didn’t want to play me, but Mahi bhai disagreed and said, “He will play all 14 games this season,” Deepak Chahar said on Breakfast with Champions.
“Our CEO told me that whenever a team was made, my name was always written first,” Deepak Chahar said as a conclusion.
