MS Dhoni has been very vocal about his demotion down the batting order in recent times.
In one of the post-match presentations, he stated that he has instructed the players not to lose wickets early and not to make him run in order to make everyone’s work easier. MS Dhoni has been nursing a knee injury since the beginning of the season, but the veteran is seen playing the entire game.
According to batting coach Mike Hussey, MS Dhoni bats at the bottom of the order to add the concluding touches because he cannot risk injuring his problematic knee by running between the wickets. The renowned keeper-batsman has struggled with a knee injury throughout the IPL, but MS Dhoni has kept wickets in every game and made useful cameos at the end of innings while batting at No. 8.
“It is fairly obvious that he prefers to bat in the final few overs; that is his strategy. “It’s been well-documented that his knee has not been 100 percent, and he’s been trying to play as best he can throughout the tournament,” Hussey said in a press conference before CSK’s final league game against the Delhi Capitals.
He does not want to enter the game in the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth over and have to perform quick doubles. Mike Hussey
This season, the World Cup-winning captain has received tremendous support from the Chennai throng. With an ice compress wrapped around his knee, Dhoni completed a lap of honor around the MA Chidambaram Stadium following CSK’s loss to KKR in their final home game. During last week’s match against DC, Dhoni was observed limping and having difficulty taking singles and doubles.
“Therefore, I believe he doesn’t want to come in the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth over and constantly have to run doubles, as this will place pressure on his knee. He is attempting to delay his entrance as long as feasible in order to maximize his impact in the late innings. He has a great deal of confidence in (Shivam) Dube, (Ravindra) Jadeja, (Ajinkya) Rahane, and (Ambati) Rayudu to complete the task before he arrives,” Hussey added.
