As the squad made its way to practice, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was greeted warmly by the supporters once more. Despite the large number of spectators assembling outside the stadium to see the players, Dhoni once again stole the show. As he left the practice session, the CSK captain nodded to the fans who had gathered to chant his name.
Dhoni’s gesture caused a flurry of excitement among the crowd, as one fan likened the cricket player to God. With Dhoni’s widespread following in Chennai and across India, CSK posted the video on social media, and it went viral right away.
It means a lot to us to see MS Dhoni. A fan stated on the video, “We have seen a god.
“We are awaiting MS Dhoni’s arrival. All I want to see is him adjusting either his bat or his glove. We will come watch MS Dhoni and support him no matter what he does. Let people elsewhere applaud Dhoni, but for us in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, he is Thala. Another fan commented, “Thala for a reason.”

After winning the 2023 Indian Premier League, Dhoni made it clear that he would only return in 2024, provided his knee was healthy. The Ranchi-born cricketer had knee surgery just after the final of the previous year, and he worked very hard to get fit again. The former captain of India is apparently playing at full strength right now because he was seen hitting sixes during practice.
Alternatively, Dhoni may play his final season in the lucrative league. He nearly retired in 2023, but he forced himself to play one more show for the adoring crowd who came to see him perform last year. But because he is so healthy, his partner Deepak Chahar is positive and thinks the wicketkeeper-batter can play for two more years. In the meantime, CSK will host RCB at M Chidambaram Stadium on March 22 to begin the 2024 season of the competition.
