The injury of Ruturaj Gaikwad was updated by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey prior to the team’s April 5 match against the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The ultimate decision about the captain’s availability will be made closer to the match, based on Gaikwad’s health, Hussey said. Against the Rajasthan Royals,
The captain of CSK was hit in the elbow while attempting to dodge a rising delivery from Tushar Deshpande that bounced spicy from a short of decent length.
Ruturaj, according to Hussey, is putting in a lot of effort in the nets but is still “bit sore.”
Sure, we’re hoping he’ll try to use a bat for training today. Sure, it still hurts a little, but it gets better every day. Thus, we’re really optimistic and sure that he’ll be okay for tomorrow, Saturday,” Hussey said.
Regarding Ruturaj’s possible replacement, the Australian said he wasn’t certain and that the coach and captain had discussed it.
“I’m not certain. I don’t believe we’ve given that much thought. I haven’t given it much thought, to be honest. Hussey continued, “I’m sure Rutu (Ruturaj) and (Stephen) Fleming have considered that.
The “young guy” who stays “behind the stumps” can take the initiative and replace Ruturaj as captain, he said cheekily, adding MS Dhoni as a potential replacement without mentioning his name.
Nevertheless, a young man is emerging. The stumps are behind him. Perhaps he can perform well. I’m not certain. He has some experience in the position, so perhaps he could succeed. However, to be honest, I’m not entirely certain,” Hussey asserted. The 17th IPL 2025 match would pit CSK against DC at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
