Ajinkya Rahane, a veteran batsman for India, has already become the talk of the town in the ongoing IPL 2023. The 34-year-old is in extraordinary batting form, having scored 224 runs in just six matches at a strike rate of 189.83, the second-highest among all cricketers who have faced at least 100 deliveries this season. Intriguingly, Ajinkya Rahane is not known for his achievements in Twenty20 cricket. In 15 previous IPL seasons, the average strike rate of the opening batsman was 120.7%, with a total of 4074 runs scored. In spite of this, the Chennai Super Kings franchise was willing to spend INR 50 lakhs to acquire the cricketer at the IPL auction.
MS Dhoni suggested that Rahane would be a wonderful addition to the team, according to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, who explained the motivations behind this decision.
Viswanathan was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying, “There’s nothing like it if you can get him,” which was what MS told him when he was asked about Ajinkya Rahane.
In the previous edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rahane was only able to score 112 runs across eight contests. MS Dhoni maintained his faith in the cricketer, who has been one of the match-winners for CSK in the current IPL season.
On April 30, the Chennai Super Kings will host the Punjab Kings.
After suffering a 32-run loss to the Rajasthan Royals, the Chennai Super Kings have fallen to fourth place in the IPL Points Table. On April 30, the MS Dhoni-led squad will host the Punjab Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Notably, the Punjab Kings were defeated by the Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs in their most recent match. In pursuit of a colossal total of 258 runs, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team scored 201 runs, resulting in their fourth loss of the season.
