A fracture in the L4 vertebra forced Afghanistan’s new spin wonder AM Ghazanfar to miss the Champions Trophy 2025, dealing them a setback. However, this has also impacted the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) strategy for the 2025 Indian Premier League. During the blockbuster auction, five-time winners paid INR 4.8 crore for Ghazanfar.
The 18-year-old will not be playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League, according to a statement released by the IPL on February 16. MI has replaced him with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who will cost INR 2 crore. It is noteworthy that Ghazanfar was a substitute for Mujeeb during the 2024 Indian Premier League and did not play in any games while at the Kolkata Knight Riders’ camp.
For the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the Mumbai Indians choose Mujeeb Ur Rahman to replace Allah Ghazanfar. Because of an injury, Allah Ghazanfar will not be playing this season. The right-arm off-spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman has participated in 19 IPL games and claimed 19 IPL wickets. The statement said, “He joins MI for INR 2 Crore.”
Last year, Ghazanfar made his debut for Afghanistan on the international stage.
Regarding AM Ghazanfar, his flawless performance for Afghanistan has turned heads everywhere. Several months prior to the IPL 2025 big auction, the young player makes his debut for Afghanistan. Interestingly, in March 2024, the adolescent played his first ODI match against Ireland. Despite being wicketless in the opening match, he went on to play 11 One-Day Internationals and has now claimed 21 wickets at a respectable average of 13.57.
He was cultivated as the team’s top spinner and, when paired with ace spinner Rashid Khan, was a lethal combination. His promise in the lengthier format was demonstrated when he wowed with four wickets in his lone Test match to date.
