On Thursday, October 12 in Lucknow, Match 10 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 pits Australian against South Africa. Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, decided to bowl first after winning the toss. South Africa, however, scored 311/7 in their allotted 50 overs, severely undermining the verdict. Quinton de Kock, who scored his second consecutive hundred in the competition (109 off 106) wreaked havoc on the Australian bowlers.
Apart from the outstanding batting performance, Australian several catch drops throughout the first innings caught everyone’s attention. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc made the first significant error as he dropped David Miller at deep square leg. The incident happened after Miller drew a slower ball from Pat Cummins in the direction of Starc on the second delivery of the 49th over.
It was a good move by the speedster to get to the ball and grab it with both hands. However, as soon as his elbow touched the floor, the ball slipped from his grip. Later on in the same over, Marcus Stoinis caught the ball after it had landed inside the 30-yard circle after Marco Jansen had slapped Cummins in the air.
But once again, Australia’s butter fingers were on full display as the all-rounder dropped the catch, adding insult to injury for his team.
Apart from them, Australian fielders had other opportunities during the game but didn’t take advantage of them.
