The former captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Rohit Sharma, has only scored 56 runs at a pitiful average of 11.20 from five innings. His appearance has been completely disorganised, and what’s much more worrisome is that his dismissals haven’t followed any pattern. As a result, he is unable to concentrate on any one spot or dodge any shots in order to recover amid the runs. Additionally, the five-time winners have had a difficult start to the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). During their first six games, they have only won two and lost four.
Rohit’s batting difficulties, according to former India captain Anjum Chopra, have prevented Mumbai from taking the lead in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
In order to allow other batsmen to open, she also proposed that the Hardik Pandya-led team try to move Rohit Sharma lower in the batting order.
“You may be doing poorly. Being out of style is not a criminal offence. It isn’t helping, and it doesn’t give Mumbai Indians the start they want or need at the top. That’s the only conclusion. “They have options, so they can always consider lowering Rohit Sharma in the order or not using any of those options,” Anjum was cited by India Today as saying.
“But it’s not that Rohit Sharma isn’t playing well; rather, it’s that sometimes you don’t get off to a really strong start to the tournament, which can have an impact on you as a player or hitter. So, it’s a part of the package. Whether it’s the World Cup or the Indian Premier League, it’s like we’re witnessing a competition. However, if you were in the World Cup, would you want your greatest batter to be playing well? And it takes a lot of energy to provide that type of performance,” she said.
The Mumbai Indians got back to winning ways on Sunday, April 13, defeating the Delhi Capitals by 12 runs, snapping the Axar Patel-led team’s four-match IPL 2025 winning streak. MI’s next game is against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
