On February 16, the Indian Premier League 2025 schedule was made public by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On March 22, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders will square off at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to kick off the tournament. The Mumbai Indians, five-time winners, will, however, play their first match on March 23.
At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, they will take on the Chennai Super Kings in the tournament’s third match. It is important to note that the Mumbai team had a terrible IPL 2024 season, finishing last in the standings with just four victories in 14 games. The franchise made some intriguing acquisitions at the table and was able to hold onto the majority of its core group prior to the auction.
They kept their best players and the core Indian group, which included captain Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and previous captain Rohit Sharma. Despite having a small pocketbook, their main purchases from the auction were Trent Boult for INR 12.5 crore and Deepak Chahar for INR 9.25 crore.
