Bangladesh defeated Ireland 2-0 in the series’ second and final Test at Mirpur’s Shere Bangla National Stadium. The tourists fought valiantly on the last day, but it was not to be, as Bangladesh bowled them out for a remarkable 217-run victory, completing a whitewash.
Bangladesh were knocked out for 476 the following day. Litton finished as the top scorer, earning 128 points from 192. McBrine had career-best figures of 6/109 in 33.1 overs. Half of the Irish batters had returned to the dugout by the end of the second day.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Lorcan Tucker finished unbeaten on 75 from 171 as Ireland were bowled out for 265 in 88.3 overs. Some players, such as Stephen Doheny and Jordan Neill, were expelled for 46 off 77 and 49 off 83. At the end of the third day, the hosts had a dominant 156/1 lead after 37 overs.
Bangladesh declared their innings at 297/4 in 69 overs after four half-centuries, one of which came from Mushfiqur. Ireland were given a huge 509 to win. By the end of Day 4, they had lost six wickets and were facing defeat. On the final day, it appeared that Bangladesh would win without any difficulty.
Curtis Campher, who was dismissed for a four-ball duck in Ireland’s first innings, stood tall during the run-chase. Although the Andy Balbirnie-led unit ultimately lost the match at the end, it was not without a stubborn resistance from Campher and the lower order players. Taijul Islam and Hasan Murad picked up four wickets each in the Irish second innings.
