"My best is comparable to anyone's" - Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh did not realize how much his ankle issue was hindering him until he decided to get surgery, and he is now feeling revitalized as he pursues two goals in the coming months.

Before to the ODI series against India, which is a stepping stone to the World Cup later this year, he hopes to earn a spot in Australia’s Ashes Test squad.

After suffering an ankle injury against Zimbabwe, Marsh underwent surgery following the T20 World Cup and ODI series against England. He was out of play for three months, missing the whole BBL, but made an instant impact upon his comeback with a century in the Sheffield Shield and a fifty in the Marsh Cup final for Western Australia.

He will not be available to bowl in any of the three matches against India. Instead, he is eyeing a return to action with Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

Mitchell Marsh has not played Test cricket since his 2019 return against England at The Oval, where he collected his maiden five-wicket haul. After breaking his hand striking a dressing room wall at the WACA during a Sheffield Shield match, he was ruled out of contention for the upcoming series against Pakistan back in Australia.

The following season, Cameron Green made his Test debut and has since established himself as the No. 6 all-rounder, although Mitchell Marsh would have had an opportunity in recent months if he hadn’t been sidelined. It seems doubtful that he and Cameron Green will play on the same team, but he wants to be prepared for the possibility.

Before the inaugural ODI in Mumbai, he said ESPN cricinfo, “I feel I’ve really grown as a person and that I’ve become better as a cricketer every single year.” “I am currently confident that my best can compete with anyone’s. I hope to receive another chance to play red-ball cricket, but if that doesn’t happen, I’ll continue to work hard and represent Australia in any squad I can.

“By the age of 31, we have observed numerous men who have reached their peak. I hope this is the case for me.”

When Green missed three Tests against South Africa and India due to a broken finger, he admits to having some “what if” thoughts, but he realized he had no alternative but to get his ankle mended.

“It’s normal to feel that way at times,” he added. “But, if I had continued with my ankle injury, I would have likely been unable to finish and it would have been more destructive to the squad.” “I never want to prioritize my personal aspirations over those of the team.”

“I’ve stated that making the Ashes squad is a major objective of mine. I hope this is the case, but I recognize that it may not be. That was clearly a factor in my decision to undergo surgery.”

Mitchell Marsh, whose move to No. 3 played a crucial role in Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup success, made the most of his forced hiatus and, once he was free to train again, worked intensively with trainers Scott Meuleman and Beau Casson on his batting.

“You never really know how things will turn out when you return,” he added, but he felt confidence in himself. “In my career, I’ve performed best when I’m fresh. Having the opportunity to take a vacation from the international cricket’s rollercoaster ride, I utilized the time as effectively as possible.

Although Cameron Green continues to make tremendous gains in Test cricket, a chance to add to his 32 Test caps may ultimately be out of his control. Having taken his first five-wicket haul at the MCG in the match he broke his finger, he got his first Test century in Ahmedabad last week.

Mitchell Marsh stated, “His professional trajectory is only ascending.” “He has a level head and he enjoys learning. He possesses all the necessary qualities to be a great cricketer, and he’s gotten past the hype surrounding him.

“We are now beginning to see him merely perform. Not only as a youthful player, but also as an established international cricketer, he is acquiring a great deal of respect around the world. Now that he has self-confidence, he will be able to continue pushing the boundaries. And they are expansive, therefore everything is possible for him.”
