BAN vs IRE 2025: Nahid Rana fined for violating ICC Code of Conduct

Nahid Rana has been fined 25% of his match earnings for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

The incident refers to an event that occurred on Day 1. On the fifth delivery of Ireland’s 27th over, Nahid fielded the ball while following through and threw it inappropriately at No. 3 batter Cade Carmichael. The ball struck him on the pads.

However, Carmichael had not moved from his crease, and Nahid Rana conduct appeared to be out of irritation.

The right-arm bowler was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel. The provision involves “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

As a result, one demerit point has been added to the 23-year-old’s disciplinary record, marking his first offence in 24 months.

There was no need for a formal hearing because the fast bowler accepted the sentence imposed by match referee Andy Pycroft. On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed all made an official charge.

For the uninformed, Level 1 violations result in a minimum penalty of an official reprimand. The maximum sanction is 50% of the player’s match cost, plus one or two demerit points.

Day 2 at Stumps, Bangladesh leads by 52 runs, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque undefeated on 169 off 283 and 80 off 124, respectively. Shadman Islam (80 off 104) was the only hitter to be dismissed.
