[Watch] Women’s World Cup 2025: Nashra Sandhu’s freak hit-wicket dismissal against Bangladesh

Nashra Sandhu was disqualified in an unusual manner during Match 3 of the Women’s World Cup 2025 between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday, October 2. Sandhu became the third Pakistani cricketer to be removed hit-wicket in a World Cup match, following Misbah-ul-Haq (against Ireland in 2015) and Imam-ul-Haq (against Bangladesh in 2019).

The terrible yet amusing situation occurred on the second ball of the 35th over of the first innings. Sandhu attempted to jab a full-length delivery from Shorna Akter, but pulled her bat at the last second. However, when her willow rose after the late leave, she struck the stumps.

Nashra Sandhu walked back disheartened, as Pakistan’s ninth wicket fell with only 115 on the board.

Speaking of how the game panned out, Pakistan women were bowled out for 129 in 38.3 overs, with only Rameen Shamim (23 off 39) and Fatima Sana (22 off 33) managing to get past the 20-run mark. Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin departed for golden ducks in the first over itself. Shorna registered figures of 3/5 in 3.3 overs while Rabeya Khan conceded only 13 runs in her seven overs with one wicket to her name.

Bangladesh did not have much difficulty in chasing down the target as they reacheid there in 31.1 overs with seven wickets to spare. Rubya Haider struck a fine unbeaten half-century while all 24 of Sobhana Mostary’s runs came through boundaries. The two remained unbeaten as Bangladesh kicked off their campaign with an important win over their Asian rivals.
