Abhishek Nayar has been hired by the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals for the upcoming T20 Mumbai League 2025 after working for eight months as the Indian team’s assistant coach. He has been designated as the side’s mentor. In the meantime, former Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has joined ARCS Andheri.
Both former Indian cricket players are very knowledgeable and experienced in both domestic and international coaching. During the eight-team competition, which is set to take place from May 26 to June 8, they will try to mentor emerging talent and provide them the opportunity to improve their abilities.
On Saturday, April 26, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) revealed a stellar roster of mentors and head coaches for the eagerly awaited T20 Mumbai League 2025 third season.
Notably, the competition is making a comeback after a six-year hiatus. The iconic Wankhede Stadium will host the games.
Some of Mumbai’s most renowned figures are on the teaching staff. Amit Dani (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals), Prashant Shetty (Eagle Thane Strikers), Vinod Raghvan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs), Rajesh Pawar (ARCS Andheri), Omkar Salvi (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), and Atul Ranade (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East) have all been named head coaches of their respective teams. The head coach of the Namo Bandra Blasters will be revealed soon.
“As the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), we are committed to promoting and empowering our local coaches and support staff, ensuring they receive greater opportunities to grow and contribute not only to Mumbai cricket but also to Indian cricket. By nurturing homegrown talent, we aim to strengthen the foundation of our cricketing ecosystem and create pathways for sustained excellence,” MCA President Ajinkya Naik said while shedding light on the association’s eagerness to promote grassroots development.
Rohit Sharma named face of league, star players set to feature as icons
MCA also announced India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma as the face of the third edition of the league. This league provided platforms for the likes of Shivam Dube, Shams Mulani, and Tushar Deshpande to showcase their potential.
In the forthcoming season, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Sarfaraz Khan, Tushar Deshpande, and Prithvi Shaw will be icon players, who will be allotted to each team based on a draw of lots.
