The senior men’s cricket squad from Nepal is working tirelessly to get ready for the highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which is only a few months away. The Nepali team chose Gujarat in order to hone their abilities before the competition. Initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the ‘Friendship Cup’ tri-series seeks to give Nepal excellent competition and develop their cricketing abilities.
In a T20 tri-series, the Nepalese squad will play teams from the Gujarat Cricket Association and the Baroda Cricket Association. The team’s visit to India has begun. The competition began on March 31, with Nepal playing Gujarat in the opening match. The guests will have plenty of time to get used to the surroundings and polish their skills because the finale is set for April 7.
Interestingly, the Gujarati-born head coach of Nepal, Monty Desai, expressed his excitement over his team’s potential to train in Gujarat. Their selection was heavily influenced by Desai’s knowledge of Gujarat’s cricket facilities and skills.
We possess a highly skilled national squad that is capable of defeating the greatest. We wanted to play good cricket against the top bowlers, batters, and fielders, though, before the World Cup. Here, the boys are having a terrific time. The teams from Baroda and Gujarat will also gain from facing a strong national cricket team. Everyone wins in this scenario, Desai told The Times of India.
We’re happy they selected Gujarat. Snehal Parikh
The BCCI granted the required approvals for the tri-series when the Cricket Association of Nepal made contact with the associations in Baroda and Gujarat. In addition to the mountain nation benefiting from this unique experience, young cricket players in Gujarat will be able to further refine their talents and exchange knowledge of the game ahead, according to Snehal Parikh, CEO of the Baroda Cricket Association, who applauded the idea.

“We’re happy they selected Gujarat to train their squad for the Twenty20 World Cup.” Both our players and our infrastructure are of high calibre. Given that Nepal is a formidable national team, Baroda and Gujarati lads will also gain a lot from this competition in addition to the Nepali cricketers,” Parikh stated.
In the future, Desai sees a long-term collaboration, thinking of yearly competitions in Gujarat and perhaps games against Ranji teams. “We will consider inviting Gujarat cricketers to play tournaments in Nepal,” Desai stated.
In relation to the teams for the next massive cricket carnival, Nepal is scheduled to play in Group D with South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands, in that order.” On June 4, they will play the Netherlands in Dallas to begin their T20 World Cup campaign.
