Cedric de Lange, 17, has received his first call-up as the Netherlands announces its roster for the forthcoming three-match away T20I series against Bangladesh. The 20-over competitions are set to begin on August 30. All of the matches will take place in Sylhet, marking their first bilateral trip of the Asian country.
De Lange, the young star, has regularly demonstrated his brilliance at the Under-19 level and with his team in the current Pro Series, a local T20 competition in his home country. The national team has also called up right-arm quick Sebastiaan Braat and all-rounder Sikander Zulfiqar for the next T20I series in Bangladesh, which begins August 30. The adjustments were made after Ryan Klein and Fred Klaassen were ruled out due to injuries, and Saqib Zulfiqar withdrew for personal reasons.
Captain Scott Edwards was excited about what the left-handed hitter would bring to the squad and wished de Lange a long career. Sebastiaan Braat and Sikander Zulfiqar have both been recalled to the Netherlands squad. The two played their final T20Is in 2021 and 2019, respectively. Edwards seems happy with the two’s return to international competition and keen for them to contribute in upcoming contests.
“It’s always exciting to bring a youngster into the squad. Cedric has been impressive all summer and he’s really earned this call-up. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can offer us on this tour and, hopefully, across a long career ahead of him,” stated Edwards, as quoted by.
“It’s also great to welcome Sebastiaan Braat back into the side. It’s been a couple of years (four) since he last played for us, but he’s had a very strong summer at club and domestic level, and we’re looking forward to having his experience back in the group as well. Sikander has been a valuable member of our national team before and I’m glad to see him back in Orange. He’s got phenomenal ability to clear the fence late in the game and I can’t wait to see him back and amongst the group,” added Edwards.
