As they get ready to trip Nepal for two bilateral ODIs and a T20I tri-series in February and March, the Netherlands cricket team is preparing for a difficult series. World Cricket League 2 will include the six one-day internationals. The trip is extremely important because all three participating teams—Netherlands, Namibia, and the host nation, Nepal—have qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean.
The Netherlands Cricket Board has just released a statement announcing that, despite some injuries and other commitments, they are sending a determined 16-man squad under the command of regular skipper Scott Edwards. The team’s depth and expertise were shown when twelve members of the squad participated in the Netherlands’ historic run in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The Dutch team may have difficulties, though, if important players like Saqib Zulfiqar, Colin Ackerman, and Logan van Beek are absent for a variety of reasons.
The CWC League 2 Tri-Series, which pits the Netherlands against the hosts Namibia and Nepal, will serve as the series’ inaugural event. Planned for February 15th through the 25th. After the CWC League 2 series ends, the teams will play a Twenty20 international series. Notably, the four Dutch players who were left off the CWC 2023 roster are Michael Levitt, Vivian Kingma, Ryan Klein, and Brendon Glover.
The match between the Netherlands and Nepal could spark a new rivalry.
With their previous meeting occurring in June 2023 during the World Cup Qualifiers, this tour represents a momentous reunion between Nepal and the Netherlands. In that ODI match, the Netherlands prevailed by a seven-wicket margin. However, Nepal’s previous victory over the Netherlands in the T20I tri-series back in April 2021 set up the fascinating match between the two teams.
