Florida’s Lauderhill, on August 25, 2023: After defeating Morrisville Unity by 33 runs in the final league game of the US Masters T10 League on Friday at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, the New York Warriors finished first in the points standings. Prior to holding the Morrisville Unity to 106/3 in their 10 overs, the New York Warriors posted 139/6.
In order to go to the playoffs, the California Knights, Texas Chargers, and Morrisville Unity placed second, third, and fourth, respectively. On Saturday, the Texas Chargers will play Morrisville Unity in the Eliminator while the New York Warriors will compete against the California Knights in Qualifier 1.
With 32 runs in 3 overs, Shehan Jayasuriya and Parthiv Patel gave the Morrisville Unity a respectable start. Patel, however, was defeated by Jerome Taylor in the fourth over for 14 runs off of 11 balls. After that, Shehan Jayasuriya and Obus Pienaar set up a second wicket partnership of 52 runs, but they were never able to keep up with the needed run rate. After allowing just 7 runs in the ninth over, Umaid Asif put an end to the Warriors’ chase.
The New York Warriors won the toss earlier in the day and decided to bat first.
The Warriors were up to 16/0 after Kamran Akmal blasted Najaf Shah for two sixes in the first over. After hitting a six and a four in the following over, Akmal was bowled out by Sreesanth for 23 runs in 8 balls. Soon after, Richard Levi was called for a duck, putting the Warriors at 33/2 in trouble.
The Warriors were able to reach 107/3 in 6.3 overs thanks to a 74-run partnership between Misbah-ul-Haq and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Misbah batted brilliantly, scoring 38 runs off just 14 balls, including one boundary and five sixes. Dilshan too made a contribution, scoring 37 runs off 19 balls. The Warriors scored 139/6 in their 10 overs after both hitters were out to Navin Stewart’s seventh over, thanks in large part to Shahid Afridi’s brilliant cameo of 22 runs from just 11 balls.
Brief Scores: Morrisville Unity 106/3 (Shehan Jayasuriya 44, Obus Pienaar 27, Abdul Razzaq 1/12) lost to New York Warriors 139/6 (Misbah-ul-Haq 38, Tillakaratne Dilshan 37, Sreesanth 3/25) by 33 runs.
