In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 summit matchup against South Africa, the women of New Zealand made history. The two teams faced off on Sunday, October 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The New Zealand women lost the toss and had to bat first to start the match.
Georgia Plimmer and Suzie Bates scored nine and thirty-two runs, respectively, to start the team’s innings. Amelia Kerr scored 43 runs in 38 deliveries, demonstrating her strong performance. Sophie Devine, the captain, scored six runs in ten deliveries, falling short of her potential.
Isabella Gaze scored three runs and Maddy Green scored twelve, while Brooke Halliday added 38 runs in 28 deliveries. The New Zealand women lost five wickets while scoring 158 runs in the game’s opening innings.
The South African women’s top wicket-taker, Nonkululeko Mlaba, claimed two wickets. Nadine de Klerk, Ayabonga Khaka, and Chloe Tryon each claimed one wicket.
New Zealand women successfully defend their title after bowling brilliantly.
South Africa women’s openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits scored 33 and 17 runs, respectively. Marizanne Kapp contributed eight runs, while Anneke Bosch contributed nine. Six runs were added to the score by Nadine de Klerk. Chloe Tryon also scored 14 runs.
South Africa was hindered by the outstanding ball-playing ability of the New Zealand women. With eight and ten runs, respectively, from Sune Luus and Annerie Dercksen, the South African women scored 126 runs and lost by 32 runs.

The two New Zealand women who took the most wickets for their team were Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr, each of whom claimed three. Brooke Halliday, Fran Jonas, and Eden Carson also claimed one wicket apiece.
