“It was nice to bounce back as a team,” said captain Meg Lanning, who scored 69 off 49, as she reflected on the victory. We had the chance to play our best game in this match, and we did, even though we probably didn’t give it our all against RCB the other night. We continue to believe that we can improve in certain areas. Winning two close games has been satisfying because it demonstrates our ability to maintain our composure and push through.
The Delhi Capitals concluded the Vadodara leg with two wins and one loss after defeating UP Warriorz by a commanding seven wickets in their third game of the 2025 WPL.
Delhi Capitals limited UP Warriorz to 166/7 in 20 overs after choosing to bowl first. Meg Lanning, the captain, led the chase, while Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp‘s heroics in the last over sealed the team’s second victory of the competition.
Meg Lanning, the captain, praised Annabel Sutherland for her role in winning the match.
The Australian made an impression with both bat and ball, scoring 2/26 in four overs before leading the Delhi Capitals to victory with an important unbeaten knock of 41 off 35 balls.
“At first, Annabel (Sutherland) was excellent with the ball, making early inroads when we were really struggling. She later maintained her composure when batting as well. She likely thought she wasn’t hitting them as hard as she would have liked, but Marizanne Kapp was able to enter and play freely because of the stability at one end. It was good to see her succeed because it was a vital job,” Lanning remarked.
DC got off to a fast start thanks to Lanning and Shafali Verma, who combined for a first-wicket partnership of 65 runs in 6.5 overs before Verma left for 26 off 16. The Indian opener was praised by the captain for getting off to a quick start.
“Shafali (Verma) just knows how to get things started quickly, and this is crucial for preparing the innings to surpass the run rate a little bit early. In the middle and rear end, it relieves some of the pressure,” she said.
The action will now move to Bengaluru, where on Saturday, February 22, the Delhi Capitals will play the UP Warriorz once more.
