Nitish Kumar Reddy, an Indian all-rounder, grabbed two wickets in his first over on Day 1 of the third Test against England at the legendary Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Thursday, July 10. He bowled 14 overs and got the ball to move both ways, which troubled England’s batters. While Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep struggled with the new ball, Reddy dismissed England’s openers in the same over.
After the first day of play, Nitish disclosed that he had approached his Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins for tips on how to bowl in English conditions during the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025. The Australian captain told him to monitor the weather and confidence in his own talents.
“After the Australian tour, I felt compelled to improve my bowling. I recently asked Pat what the difference is between Australia and England, as this is my first tour. He said there won’t be a big shift, but you just watch the weather and play your game,” Reddy remarked at the post-match news conference after England finished on 251/4.
Reddy was asked if he has one eye on having his name on the coveted Lord’s honour board by hitting a five-for on Day 2. The Hyderabad all-rounder responded in the affirmative, stating he would be overjoyed if he achieved the feat.
“Since I got some bit of swing both ways and I just want to be consistent over all areas. I have been doing a lot of hard work ,,, I have to believe in myself. I would be so happy if I got named on the board,” Reddy noted.
We are playing against top-class batsmen as well: Nitish Kumar Reddy
The 22-year-old mentioned how seasoned campaigners Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are trying to help him hone his skills as a fast bowler.
“They always speak about being consistent. It isn’t just about bowling those good balls. We are playing against top-class batsmen as well. It’s not like if you bowl an in-swinger or an out-swinger, you are getting a wicket. So we just keep simple plans,” he said.+
England finished Day 1 at 251/4 in 83 overs. Joe Root will resume his innings from 99 on Friday, while Ben Stokes has taken himself to Stumps, scoring a watchful 39*. They will look to keep the Indian pacers at bay in the opening hour before stepping on the accelerator.
