I felt like playing when women watching, not fun with only men watching: Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri, a famous cricketer and former India player, appeared on the show to provide his detailed analysis of the eight-team event in the most recent episode that is going viral.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is coming to a finish, and a number of experts are sharing their thoughts on how the competition has gone thus far. Numerous sites provide fans with up-to-date information on the game’s technical aspects every day, as well as previously unheard tales and expert opinions on the current ICC tournament.

But recently, a show called “Dressing Room” has gained a lot of interest since it has cricket players from all over the world gathering together and discussing a variety of amusing and obscure tales.

He discussed how the concept for the ‘Shaz and Waz’ segment on TV was developed throughout the event. Shastri also mentioned that it was a little boring to watch solely guys watch cricket when he used to play the game.

Why don’t we try this show in the middle, during tea time? Ray Hughes said. Let’s break up the six-hour game of cricket, which is a serious affair. “What is the idea?” we enquired. He said, “We’ll do Waz and Shaz.” [Asked] What do we discuss? We’ll get a guest inside, he said. “Who is going to be the guest?” I asked. So they said, “We’ll come get a visitor.” So, I enquired, “Is it male or female?” I advised you to pick up a woman if it’s picking up. [Choosing a girl] is much better for [us]. because there was a need to promote women’s cricket at the time.

“It’s crucial that you understand,” Ravi Shastri stated on the Sports Central YouTube channel.

“It wasn’t enjoyable when we played cricket if there were only men watching. You can tell you felt like [you were] playing sports, nevertheless, when you spotted some [females]. You believed that your performances needed to impress not only the people on the pitch but also the spectators. Furthermore, let’s be honest: women add colour. They provide colour. Thus, he added, “when we would get people in the show.”

“We discovered that they were passionate about the game; their expertise was astounding, and they came from a variety of life backgrounds. Some of them were cooks, while some were models. [A few] were enrolled in college. Additionally, [the show] was a huge hit. It quickly entered the top 10 shows because it was unique and humorous. The female part was different; there was a little bit of fun and a little bit of cricket. “There would be fifteen messages on your phone [after the show], all of them men, all of them jealous guys (laughs),” Shastri said.

How did the Shaz and Waz show begin?

Speaking of the Shaz and Waz show, two former cricket greats from Pakistan and India, respectively, were featured in the part. Wasim Akram, the other host, played the part of “Waz,” while Ravi Shastri played “Shaz.” Notably, Star Sports debuted the show in January 2004 while India was playing Australia in Australia. Akram’s moniker was given by the renowned former Pakistani captain, Imran Khan, whereas Shastri came up with it himself.

The show had a significant influence since, in those days, it was tedious for TV viewers and spectators to listen to the monotonous commentary of different cricket experts about the match in progress during the tea break between games. But during a light-hearted conversation with a producer, Ravi Shastri proposed the notion of incorporating a “female element” into the mid-break cricket presentations in addition to having a light-hearted conversation. Within two days of the show’s airing, a casual conversation in the follow-up became a reality. As a result, it became one of the top 10 cricket shows and ultimately increased the broadcasting channel’s audience by an astounding 65 percent.
