Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara took back-to-back wickets to put Afghanistan on the back foot in their Asia Cup 2025 match on September 18. Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Thushara made an immediate impression by removing Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the first ball of his over, laying the groundwork for his stint. On the final ball of the same over, he delivered a magnificent delivery to dismiss Karim Janat, who had been pushed up the batting order.
Nuwan Thushara hit a well-pitched, long ball that landed near off and middle and swung away aggressively.
Janat, caught in the crease, failed to react to the out swinger, and the ball hit the off-stump. Thushara’s precise line and movement troubled the Afghan batter, and his early breakthroughs shifted the momentum in Sri Lanka’s favour, providing the team with a solid foundation on which to build their bowling attack.
