Several records have been broken during the current ODI World Cup in 2023. During India’s semi-final match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, Virat Kohli smashed his “idol,” Sachin Tendulkar record for the most ODI hundreds recorded by a batsman.
With a record 49 ODI hundreds, Sachin Tendulkar concluded his remarkable career. Very few would have predicted that one day his bizarre achievement would be surpassed. The former captain of India has stated in multiple interviews that he hopes one of his countrymen will surpass his personal bests. In the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023, 11 years after Tendulkar’s 49th century, his old colleague Virat Kohli made history by scoring a record-breaking 50th ODI century against New Zealand.
It was only fitting that in Tendulkar’s presence, Kohli smashed the enchanted record. As Kohli dashed back for his second run to reach the historic three-figure mark, the Master Blaster was present at the Wankhede. As Tendulkar was giving him a standing ovation, the Delhi batter bent down to pay his respects.
India is scheduled to play Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. Prior to the eagerly awaited match, Tendulkar gave Kohli his famous No. 10 jersey, which he wore in his final ODI match.

In 2011, Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli were a member of the Indian team that won the ODI World Cup. The fifty-year-old will be at the world’s largest cricket venue, supporting the Men in Blue from the stands. He would be thrilled to witness Rohit Sharma’s team defeat the previous five-time champions in what looks to be a match to remember.
