Ben Stokes, the captain of England’s Test team, suffered a hamstring tear during The Hundred 2024. The prominent all-rounder would miss the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka due to the ailment. Former England pacer Stuart Broad, who was ruled out for the remainder of the summer, has urged the team to learn from the setback in front of the Sri Lanka series.
On August 11, during the Northern Superchargers’ game versus Manchester Originals, Stokes, a player for The Hundred, sustained an injury. He had to come back as his hamstring problems continued when the Superchargers were chasing 153 runs when he opened the batting. After being removed from the pitch, ECB declared that he will not be available for the remainder of the summer. Regarding the same, Broad said that losing a player like Stokes for a Test team is a disgrace.
“It’s really unfortunate for the Test team, since he appeared in excellent shape. He’s put a lot of effort into getting fit. To apply the adage “take the positives” from sports, Broad was reported by India Today as saying, “But it actually gives England the chance to play against Sri Lanka with a make-up of team without Ben Stokes, that they are going to have to trial at some point.”
Stokesy has been playing as a batter despite being unable to bowl for the past 18 months. What happens if Stokesy isn’t feeling good the night before Brisbane in eighteen months? Though none of us would particularly want it, Ollie Pope, the substitute captain, needs to gain some experience and learn what a team looks like without Ben Stokes. “You’ve got to find the positives in that and Stokesy will still be around,” Pope continued.
Ben Stokes is hoping to recuperate quickly in time for the Pakistan series.
Before heading to Pakistan for the Test series, the Three Lions must win the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka. Given that they were the ones who first officiated the bold style of Test cricket, the English will be hoping to claim the World Test Championship 2025 trophy for themselves among the busy white ball schedule. Due to his injury, Ben Stokes made a light-hearted commitment to act as a coach for the team throughout the Sri Lankan series, according to Stuart Broad.

“I don’t know what Baz (Brendon McCullum) is going to be doing, but he texted me already to say he’s going to be the coach,” Broad said in closing.
