The Pakistan women’s cricket team will face South Africa women in a three-match ODI series beginning Tuesday, September 16, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. This is South Africa’s third tour of Pakistan in the last three years, having previously visited in preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The ODIs are scheduled for September 16–19, and 22. Pakistan will be headed by Fatima Sana, with Laura Wolvaardt captaining the Proteas. Before the series, Pakistan had a two-week pre-series camp in Lahore, which included practice sessions and scenario-based matches. Eyman Fatima, a rising talent who made her T20I debut against Ireland in Dublin in August, is also named in the squad.
The series is especially important since both sides want to fine-tune their preparations for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka between September 30 and November 2. Pakistan is scheduled to play all of their matches in Sri Lanka during the tournament.
When these two teams last played in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 match in Karachi on September 14, 2023, Pakistan won by eight wickets. That result will boost the hosts’ confidence as they attempt to replicate their triumph on home turf.
“A series like this is very beneficial for the team ahead of the World Cup. It gives the players a good opportunity to put into practice all the preparation they have done in recent times. Everyone knows Pakistan rely on their bowling attack, so this time our focus will be on getting more support from the batting unit as well. We worked a lot on batting during the camp,” said Sana to PCB Digital.
Wolvaardt said: “This series is an important part of our preparations for the World Cup. The conditions will be similar to those at the World Cup, so it’s a great opportunity for us to get ready. Pakistan are a good side with some quality batters and players who play spin very well. I am expecting a strong contest in the series.”
