The men’s national selection committee of Pakistan has invited players to participate in specialized programs at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore in order to build a solid foundation for the upcoming season. A total of 13 spinners, 11 fast bowlers, and 14 batters will be involved in the two sessions from June 10–15 (for spinners) and June 16–21 (for fast bowlers).
The men’s, Shaheens, and U19 squads of Pakistan will train under the supervision of the national team and NCA coaches. The purpose of the camps is to assist the selectors in assembling the finest possible squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka in July. Notably, Pakistan’s first assignment in the third cycle of the World Test Championship will be this series.
According to a report in Cricket Pakistan, separate camps for spin and fast bowlers have been established to help them bowl longer spells by enhancing their abilities and putting their fitness to the test in harsh conditions. Similarly, the batters will be required to bat for extended periods.
To instill ‘The Pakistan Way’ in the upcoming players and make them aware of the expectations of the national team as they aspire to represent Pakistan at the highest level, players from various levels have been brought together. The camp will also provide young athletes with the opportunity to learn from more experienced players.
Players with “No-Objection Certificates” who participate in county cricket or other competitions will continue to play in them. Mohammad Nawaz (rehabilitation for a finger injury), Sarfaraz Ahmed (personal obligations), Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan (both performing Hajj) have been excused from the camp.
Abrar Ahmed, Ali Asfand, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Mohammad Junaid, Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir Khan, Noman Ali, Qasim Akram, Sajid Khan, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usama Mir, and Zahid Mehmood have been invited as spinners.
