Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha suffered a slight neck spasm during preparation for the Asia Cup 2025. However, club management remains convinced that he will be able to lead in the upcoming high-stakes matches.
Agha missed a substantial portion of the training session on Wednesday, September 10, at the ICC Academy in Dubai. The all-rounder was pictured with a bandage over his neck after complaining about neck problems.
According to Geo News, despite travelling with the squad, Agha missed warm-ups and light football drills while the rest of the team went through a full fitness regimen. His minimal participation raised concerns in the camp, particularly as the highly anticipated encounter with India on Sunday approached.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) downplayed the worries, claiming that the problem is minor and preventative in nature. The 31-year-old is scheduled to start full-fledged training soon, and team management remains optimistic that he will be able to lead Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 contests.
He was born in Lahore and has played 21 Tests, 41 ODIs, and 25 T20Is. In the shortest format, he has 489 runs at 27.17 average and 116.43 strike rate. With the ball, he has four wickets at an economy rate of 7.50.
Pakistan is classified in Group A, along with India, Oman, and the UAE.
The Men in Green will face Oman at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, September 12, to kick off their Asia Cup campaign. This will be the two teams’ first T20I match.
Pakistan are in a rebuilding phase, with Mike Hesson taking charge as the head coach. Agha has been appointed as the T20 captain, taking over the reins from Mohammad Rizwan.
“I think we are playing good cricket, we started that a few months ago. Things are coming together, as a team we are playing good cricket and looking forward to this tournament, and everyone is very excited,” Salman said in the pre-series press conference on Tuesday, September 9.
