Pakistan overcame a batting collapse before their bowlers delivered a clinical performance to seal a 41-run victory over the UAE in Dubai, securing a spot in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four alongside India from Group A.
When asked to bat first, Pakistan suffered two major blows: Junaid Siddique bowled Saim Ayub for his third consecutive duck and Sahibzada Farhan cheaply. Fakhar Zaman scored 50 from 36 balls, including two boundaries and three sixes. He scored 61 alongside skipper Salman Agha (20). Simranjeet Singh, a left-arm spinner, put Pakistan on the back foot with three wickets, while Siddique concluded with excellent figures of four for eighteen. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s late cameo of an unbeaten 29 off 14 balls took the score to 146 for 9.
Chasing 147, UAE started strongly with Alishan Sharafu, but after Shaheen removed him, UAE’s innings deteriorated. Captain Muhammad Waseem and Rahul Chopra attempted to maintain order, with Chopra scoring 35, but Pakistan’s spinners, Abrar Ahmed and Saim Ayub, continued to put pressure. Abrar was brilliant, taking 2 for 13 from four overs. While the UAE lost their last seven wickets for only 20 runs, they collapsed to 105 all out in 17.4 overs. Haris Rauf and Shaheen each took two wickets, with Salman Agha adding one.
