Paras Mhambrey advocates Mayank Yadav’s regular practise sessions “You can’t wrap him up in cotton wool saying he will get injured”

Paras Mhambrey advocates Mayank Yadav's regular practise sessions "You can't wrap him up in cotton wool saying he will get injured"

Paras Mhambrey, the former bowling coach of the Indian team, recently spoke about Mayank’s situation and believed that a child of Mayank’s potential should not be kept isolated from the outside world by not allowing him to bowl. Mhambrey said that the absolute least he should play is red-ball cricket in his home country.

After the 22-year-old pacer made waves in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants, Mayank Yadav‘s future and that of Indian cricket appeared brighter than ever. After taking three wickets in each of his first two games, he was declared Player of the Match. His first two games could not have gone better. But he was out for “minimum of four weeks” due to a muscle rupture sustained against the Mumbai Indians, and those weeks don’t appear to have concluded as of April 30, 2024.

“I disagree that you should just stop playing him if he’s not ready. At this age, he needs to bowl. A bowler ought to use the bowl. The more you bowl, the more control you’ll have over your game and the amount your body can tolerate. You cannot tell him he will get hurt by wrapping him in cotton wool. We need to be wise about how much he bowls, but we can’t overbowl and tire him out. He needs to play first-class cricket since he is a fast bowler, Mhambrey stated to The Indian Express.

Mhambrey went on to explain why Mayank need to be forced to play more in the forthcoming domestic season, offering convincing justifications for synchronising rhythm and the crucial component of self-belief.

“After playing for a season, you become familiar with your bowling. You bowl in various environments. You will be put to the test physically during several game phases. You could occasionally need to spend six periods on the ground. Additionally, being able to bowl as hard as you did in the previous session will boost your confidence when you compete internationally. Mhambrey stated, “I firmly believe Mayank needs to grind it out in the domestic season.

For him, the following three to four years will be very important: Paras Mhambrey

The former Indian cricket player added that rather than focussing on long-term results, he was interested in speculating about the influence and advancement Mayank might make in the near future.

“I’m not considering the upcoming ten or fifteen years. In the next five, I want to see what he can accomplish. For him, the next three to four years will be quite important. He will have a far better understanding of his physique once he is 25 or 26. He will then play internationally for a good five years, Mhambrey continued.Paras Mhambrey and Mayank Yadav

Mayank is currently putting in a lot of work at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru after choosing not to participate in the current Delhi Premier League.
