In anticipation of a possible washout, DC co-owner Parth Jindal has sent a letter to the BCCI asking for a venue change so that the match can go without being interrupted by bad weather.
A yellow alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai has cast doubt on the match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC), which is set for Wednesday night at the Wankhede Stadium, as the IPL 2025 draws to a close and the battle for a postseason berth is still very much alive.
Notably, the MI vs. DC match is a must-win for both teams and might result in a virtual knockout. Right now, MI is in fourth place with 14 points, and DC is in fifth place with 13 points. If MI wins, they will guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
If DC prevails, neither team advances yet, thus their last league games—both against Punjab Kings (PBKS)—will be the decisive factor. However, if the game is rained out and the points are split, MI rises to 15 and DC to 14, ensuring that the playoff race is still in play.
In his communication to the BCCI, Jindal, meantime, brought up the weather issues that might have a significant impact on the match.
“The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out,” the writer said. “Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow’s game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers,”

The IMD’s yellow alert indicates thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall for the next four days in Mumbai. On Tuesday evening, practice sessions at the Wankhede were also halted, while MI managed to finish their drills, DC’s net session was halted midway due to sudden showers. The Wankhede Stadium, despite having a brilliant drainage system, is known for a soggy outfield after even brief showers due to its sand-based structure and limited covers.
MI’s previous match at the venue against the Gujarat Titans also suffered multiple stoppages and was eventually decided by the DLS method. With more rain expected, Jindal has asked for relocation of the game, just as that of the RCB vs SRH clash, due to similar weather concerns in Bengaluru. However, the board hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the venue change.
