Pat Cummins broke records with his magnificent spell of 6/28 against South Africa in the first innings of the WTC Final 2025 at Lord’s. The Australian captain was at his best in the big match, running through the South African hitters on the second day of the WTC Final 2025 at the Home of Cricket.
Cummins bowled an excellent delivery to dismiss Wiaan Mulder near the close on Day 1. Cummins took 5 wickets on Day 2, the first of which came when he dismissed skipper Temba Bavuma, who was part of a 64-run partnership with David Bedingham for the fifth wicket. He then dismissed Marco Jansen in the same over, catching and bowling him.
Cummins took a great DRS and defeated Kyle Verreyne to take his fourth wicket of the innings. He followed it up with an excellent delivery that sent Bedingham back to the pavilion. Cummins got his sixth wicket of the day by removing Kagiso Rabada, bringing South Africa’s innings to a conclusion at 138.
Pat Cummins accomplished milestones in WTC Final 2025.
In his 18.1 overs, the right-arm pacer took 6/28 with six maidens. The captain did indeed lead from the front and achieved several significant milestones along the way. Pat Cummins reached 300 Test wickets as soon as he got rid of Rabada, the majority of which came as a non-new ball bowler.
His stint of 18.1-6-28-6 is the best by a bowler in a single innings in WTC Finals history. Cummins also joined the elite pacers league to play at cricket’s home ground. It was an extraordinary feat to accomplish during the Ultimate Test.
Cummins also became only the second bowler in 43 years to win a fifer at Lord’s as captain. Bob Willis, a former English bowler, led his side to a fifer against India at the Home of Cricket. Cummins improved on his last performance and now has the best bowling numbers for a Lord’s skipper.
