The fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 between Australia and India is scheduled to begin at the MCG on December 26. Australia has revealed that young player Sam Konstas will make his debut after announcing their starting XI.
Nathan McSweeney, who was benched following a run of poor results, will be replaced in the starting lineup by Konstas. Australia captain Pat Cummins has given him some advise before his debut. When Cummins looked back on his 2011 debut, he said he was as thrilled as Konstas is now.
It was really fantastic. I wondered for a while why I was there, how I got there, and how it happened so fast. “I just remember being really excited,” NDTV reported Cummins as saying.
It reminds me of Sammy (Konstas) this week, I believe. When you’re naive, all you want to do is go outside and play in the backyard as you did as a child. You don’t want to overthink everything; you just want to play the game and enjoy yourself. That’s what Sam needs to know. That’s exactly how I felt when I was eighteen. “Once the game started, you go into game mode and it’s just like any other game,” he continued. “I was just really excited.”
There is nothing better than this on Boxing Day: Pat Cummins
Cummins related a story and expressed his thoughts as an eighteen-year-old. He claimed that at the time, he thought he had more wiggle room on the team in the event that he didn’t perform well.
“I recall thinking, almost openly, as an 18-year-old, ‘I have a lot more leeway because I was young.'” I nearly believed that if I didn’t have a strong game, it was the selectors’ fault for choosing me. ‘Well, they’re the fools who chose an 18-year-old,’ I thought. It is Boxing Day; it doesn’t get any better than this. You are so young when you begin your job. Thus, simply savour the now,” Cummins said.
