In Match No. 22 of the IPL 2025, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 18 runs in Mullanpur because to a spectacular 42-ball 103 from 24-year-old Priyansh Arya. In just 39 balls, Arya’s century was the fastest by an uncapped Indian and tied for fourth fastest in IPL history overall, only surpassed by greats like David Miller, Yusuf Pathan, and Chris Gayle.
CSK’s mistakes on the field, which included dropping him twice as part of five squandered opportunities that evening, added to the surprise of the knock. After Arya’s spectacular display and a 65-run partnership between Shashank Singh (52* off 36) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19), PBKS overcame a dismal start of 83/5 to reach 219/6.
In reply, CSK started well with Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra adding 59 in the powerplay. Conway went on to make 69 off 49 balls but was retired out in the 18th over. Shivam Dube (42 off 27) and MS Dhoni (27 off 12) tried to keep the chase alive, but it was too late. CSK’s struggles chasing 180+ totals continued as they have now failed in their last 11 such attempts since 2020. With this win, PBKS clinched their first home victory of the season.

Priyansh Arya grabbed headlines with his 103 off just 42 balls. The 24-year-old laced his innings with controlled aggression. Arya smashed a 19-ball fifty and reached his century in just 39 balls, becoming the joint-fourth fastest in IPL history. He hammered Ravi Ashwin for 28 runs off 10 balls and hit Matheesha Pathirana for 6,6,4 to complete his hundred. Dropped twice, on 6 and 35, Arya made CSK pay dearly. His innings guided PBKS to a defendable target despite a misfiring top order.

Devon Conway played a fighting hand with 69 off 49 balls but struggled to keep up with the required rate. With CSK needing 49 from 13 balls, he was ‘retired out’, becoming the second batter to be so this season after Tilak Varma. However, till the time he spent on the crease, he made sure to keep the opposition bowlers on the backfoot, smashing six boundaries and two sixes, and playing at a strike rate of 140.81.

After Arya’s dismissal, Shashank Singh (52* off 36) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19) stitched a 65-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Their late finish, including smart running and clean hitting, turned a good total into a match-winning one. The duo managed to take Punjab Kings to a highly competitive total which ended up being a match-winning one.
