Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in the 69th match of the Indian Premier League 2025, played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After winning the toss, PBKS chose to bowl first and followed their strategy successfully, restricting MI to 184/7 in 20 overs before chasing down the mark with 9 balls remaining.
Suryakumar Yadav’s blazing 57 off 39 balls, which included six fours and two sixes, set the tone for the Mumbai Indians’ innings. Rickelton scored a quick 27 off 20, while skipper Hardik Pandya added a blazing 26 off 15. However, successive breakthroughs by the PBKS bowlers, particularly Marco Jansen (2/34) and Arshdeep Singh (2/28), meant MI couldn’t completely benefit on their start.
The PBKS openers started strongly in their pursuit of 185. Youngster Priyansh Arya smashed 9 fours and 2 sixes in a remarkable 62 off 35 balls, while Josh Inglis scored 73 off 42 deliveries, including 9 boundaries and 3 maximums. Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 26 off 16, leading his team home comfortably in 18.3 overs.
Mitchell Santner was MI’s standout bowler, taking two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah bowled economically, surrendering only 23 runs in four overs. However, the absence of help from the other bowlers proved costly, as PBKS easily chased down the target.
With this victory, the Punjab Kings not only sealed the game but also ensured their status in the top two of the points table, securing a key advantage heading into the playoffs.
