At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals faced off in the 18th game of the Indian Premier League 2025. PBKS won the toss and chose to bowl first because they were feeling very confident after winning both of their first games. However, RR needed to turn things around badly because they had only won one of their first three games going into the game.
RR scored 53 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay, getting off to a great start. After struggling in the first few games, Yashasvi Jaiswal settled into a groove and brilliantly anchored the innings with a dominant 67 runs off 45 balls. RR reached an impressive total of 205/4 in their 20 overs thanks to the explosive cameos of Shimron Hetmyer (20 off 12) and Riyan Parag (43* off 25) in the last overs.
Jofra Archer struck on the first ball, striking Priyansh Arya for a golden duck, giving Punjab Kings a terrible start to their chase. Archer dealt a serious blow later in the same over as he dismissed PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer (10 off 5). PBKS struggled at 43/4 at the end of the powerplay and never fully bounced back from the early losses.
Nehal Wadhera put up a valiant half-century, but none of the other batters were able to form partnerships or maintain the necessary pace. Punjab never recovered from RR’s disciplined bowling and astute fielding. In the end, PBKS concluded at 155/9, giving the Rajasthan Royals a decisive victory by 50 runs.
