The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provided an explanation as to why team India and the other participating nations will not have Pakistan’s name mentioned on their respective jerseys for the Asia Cup 2023, despite the fact that Pakistan and India will be co-hosting the tournament. Notably, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the ACC tournament, which got under way on the 30th of August and will continue through the 17th of September.
The first three matches of the tournament have been played, and spectators have noted that neither “Pakistan” nor “Sri Lanka” is mentioned on the jerseys of the players as the hosts of the tournament. According to the most recent information that has surfaced, the PCB has offered a clarification in which they indicate that the Asian Cricket Council made the decision to stop using the names of the hosts on the jersey during a meeting that took place in 2022.
“At a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council last year, it was decided that the practice of the hosts’ name being on the players’ shirts will be stopped,” a source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board told the Times of India (TOI). “The decision was made to stop the practice,”
The assertion that was made by PCB regarding any decision made by the ACC was, according to sources, disputed by a source from the BCCI. It is important to point out that in the last competition, the jerseys all had the words “Sri Lanka 2022” written on them. The ACC faced a lot of criticism for the decision as a result of cricket fans and community members pointing out the disparity between the two.
