The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are poised to clash in the upcoming season. Due to the impending Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would not be able to organise the next PSL in the preferred February–March window. Instead, it is anticipated that the PSL will be held in March and April, when the Indian Premier League is anticipated to take place.
Many top cricket players won’t be available for PSL 2025 since IPL contracts are significantly more costly, and both high-profile tournaments are anticipated to overlap. Because of this, a number of PSL teams have asked the PCB to take into account the IPL’s unsold players for the upcoming tournament. Prominent cricket players like David Warner, Steve Smith, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Keshav Maharaj, Kusal Mendis, Daryl Mitchell, and Kane Williamson are on the list.
An insider told India Today, “The team owners want the PCB to speak with these players’ boards and agents and confirm their availability for the PSL 2025.”
In the meantime, the BCCI’s suggestion to hold the auction abroad also served as inspiration for Pakistan. Jeddah hosted the 2025 IPL mega-auction, and PCB is now organising a comparable event. According to speculations, they are thinking of hosting the 2025 Players’ Draft in Dubai or London. Franchise owners and PCB officials recently discussed it, but no decisions have been made. Franchise owners, on the other hand, are reportedly eager because they think this will improve their brand image.
“The franchise owners believe that having the players draft in Dubai or London would enhance the league’s reputation,” the insider stated.
Confusion surrounds the Champions Trophy in the meanwhile. Pakistan reportedly agreed to the hybrid format after some of their demands were met, but the ICC has not issued an official confirmation and the tournament schedule has not been made public.
