Peter Moores, one of England’s most respected cricket instructors, will take over as head coach of Trent Rockets’ men’s side ahead of The Hundred 2026 season. Following Andy Flower’s departure to join the London Spirit, Moores is the frontrunner to lead the Rockets, extending his successful tenure with Nottinghamshire into the franchise structure.
Trent Rockets are in a state of transition. Earlier this year, private equity groups Cain and Ares purchased a 49% ownership in the franchise, although Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club retained operational control. This shift in ownership structure has resulted in a bigger overhaul, including the appointment of Chris Read as head coach of the women’s team. With Flower stepping down, Rockets management is looking for a new captain.
Notably, Moores brings extensive expertise and success to the table. He is currently Nottinghamshire’s head coach and recently secured a three-year contract extension after leading the county to consistent performances across all formats. Notts have won numerous titles during his tenure, including two T20 Blast trophies, a One-Day Cup, and the County Championship Division Two trophy. He has been generally recognized with developing England internationals like Ben Duckett and Josh Tongue.
Peter Moores was also part of the Rockets’ coaching staff last season, serving as Flower’s assistant during their impressive run to the final.
His familiarity with the players, conditions, and team culture gives him a head start in transitioning into the top role. Meanwhile, he is a former England head coach and has led teams in the Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League, coaching the Melbourne Stars and Karachi Kings, respectively. His recent extension with the Stars came after steering the team to the finals.
Joining Moores could be Adam Voges, who is reportedly in talks to become the Rockets’ assistant coach. Voges has been part of Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, leading them to multiple titles. His longstanding connection with Nottinghamshire, where he played as an overseas professional between 2008 and 2012, further strengthens his suitability for the role.
Meanwhile, several franchises in The Hundred are finalizing their coaching setups for 2026. Flower has already taken charge at London Spirit, Mike Hussey will lead Welsh Fire, and Shane Bond has been appointed Birmingham Phoenix’s head coach. Daniel Vettori is set to join Sunrisers Leeds (formerly Northern Superchargers), while Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles continue their own search for new coaching names.
