Bangladesh’s trip of Sri Lanka will begin on Tuesday, June 17, with the first Test match at Galle International Stadium. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led squad will be eager to do well in the forthcoming encounter at a difficult site for batsmen.
The batting averages at Galle have been dropping as the games progressed, with spinners outperforming batters. All eyes will be on Shanto, who has an excellent record against the Island nation and scored his best individual score in red-ball cricket against them at Pallekele in 2021. Shanto has also indicated that he is looking forward to the challenges he and the ‘Tigers’ will encounter in Galle.
“I have fond recollections of Kandy, but I want to take advantage of this opportunity in Galle. Playing spin can be difficult, but there are a lot of runs in the first two or three days in Galle. “We want to seize that opportunity,” Shanto remarked, as quoted by.
“The batsmen will face difficulties because spinners take more wickets at this location. We have to bat well. Despite the hardships, we love each other’s company,” the Bangladesh captain remarked.
Najmul Hossain Shanto on Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s availability
For the upcoming tough fixture at Galle, the Bangladesh side will face another challenge with one of their key spin-bowling all-rounders, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, being doubtful for selection in the playing XI. Mehidy reportedly has high fever. Shanto has given an update on his availability and explained how crucial his role in the team is.
“Mehidy is still under observation, but his health is improving. A lot depends on his availability. If he is in the team, we can go into the Test with a good combination. I don’t want to reveal where I am going to bat in the Test match. I don’t want my opponent to know. We still have a few things up in the air. Miraz is still not fully well,” Shanto said.
