IPL 2025: Ricky Ponting hails Mitchell Owen as ‘exciting package’—ready to fill Glenn Maxwell’s shoes

Glenn Maxwell was ruled out for the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League, and Ricky Ponting was thrilled to have Mitchell Owen join the Punjab Kings (PBKS) team. Owen’s efforts in the Big Bash League (BBL) with the Hobart Hurricanes were noted by the 2013 IPL champion, who called him a very impressive player. The assistant coach at PBKS, James Hopes, has worked with Owen at the Hurricanes and is fully aware of his potential, he added.
