Prasidh Krishna was hit on the helmet while attempting to play a pull shot off a short ball from Henry Thornton during Day 2 of the second unofficial Test on Wednesday, September 24 at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The Karnataka speedster was replaced as a concussion substitution by fellow right-arm seamer Yash Thakur. Thornton’s short delivery struck Krishna in the helmet in the 39th over of India A’s innings. He attempted the sharp delivery but failed to make contact. Krishna continued to bat following the obligatory concussion assessment.
However, after the 42nd over, Krishna began to go back towards the dressing room, and Mohammed Siraj, the new batter, was introduced. When India A was eight down after Siraj’s wicket, Gurnoor Brar came in at No. 11, and when B Sai Sudharsan was dismissed shortly after, concussion substitute Thakur walked out as the final batter, replacing Krishna in the playing XI.
While the degree of Krishna’s injury is unknown, the national selectors will meet later on Wednesday to choose the squad for the two-match Test series at home against the West Indies. Krishna is set to be included in the squad, along with pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep. The first Test match between India and the West Indies began on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Prasidh Krishna did not fare well in the red-ball matches versus Australia A.
In the first game, he bowled 16 overs and gave up 86 runs without taking a wicket. In the second innings, the 29-year-old bowled five overs and conceded only four runs. In Australia’s first innings of the second match, Krishna conceded 76 runs in 17 overs while taking one wicket. This is the Bengaluru-born player’s first competitive match since the Anderson-Tendulkar Test series in England, which ended in early August.
India A were bowled out for 194 in 52.5 overs after Australia A posted 420 in the first innings. Sai Sudharsan top-scored for India A with a 140-ball 75.
